Who we are

Kris Foutch

CEO

Kris has dedicated 32 years to the HVAC industry. He began as a helper in 1992 and worked his way up to lead installer before relocating to Raleigh to establish a new startup division. There, he trained a team from scratch and handled multiple roles during his tenure.

After completing projects in Raleigh, Kris embraced the opportunity to relocate with his team to Charlotte, continuing to work with the general contractors. Despite joining a smaller company, he focused on building it into a thriving business and honing his leadership and client relations skills.

Amid the 2008 recession, Kris made the bold decision to start his own company in 2010. Despite challenging circumstances, he leveraged his connections and expertise, eventually growing the business to over $70 million in active contracts by 2020. After selling the company in 2020, he remained involved as a minority owner for the next three years.

During a brief break, Kris realized his passion for the HVAC industry remained strong. This led to the pursuit of starting another company, F1 Mechanical, with the goal of pursuing both Residential and Commercial New Construction, while also building a robust service department for Residential and Commercial service and replacement. Kris aims to set a new standard in the HVAC industry.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, playing drums and listening to music. Additionally, he has a fascinating hobby of building and maintaining saltwater aquariums.

Matt Thornley

VP of Operations

Matt’s extensive field experience is a valuable asset to any job site. From managing early-morning crane lifts to handling urgent late-night start-ups, he has demonstrated his expertise in New Construction HVAC over the past seven years. Starting as a helper, Matt’s determination and ambition have led him to his current role as VP of Operations at F1 Mechanical.

With Matt’s leadership and deep field knowledge, F1 Mechanical has expanded into new markets, including Single Family custom homes and commercial installations.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys bass fishing and spending quality time with his family.

Steve Rek

VP of Project Engineering

As Vice President of Project Engineering at F1 Mechanical, Steve brings several years of experience to the HVAC industry. With a strong background in mechanical engineering and a passion for innovative solutions, he leads a talented team dedicated to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient HVAC systems.

With Steve at the technical helm, F1 Mechanical has completed numerous successful projects, enhancing comfort and sustainability for client’s spaces across diverse sectors. Steve is committed to driving technological advancements while maintaining the highest standards of excellence in every project.

When away from the office, Steve enjoys grilling out and taking his boat out on Lake Norman. He is also very family-oriented, loves to fish and spend time with friends.

Ashlyn Foutch

Accounts Receivable/Payable Specialist

As an Accounts Receivable/Payable Specialist at F1 Mechanical, Ashlyn manages the company’s cash flow, tracks receivables and payables, and excels in invoicing, payment processing, and customer account reconciliation. Her dedication significantly contributes to F1 Mechanical’s financial health and stability.

In her free-time Ashlyn enjoys spending time with her family. She has a passion for cooking and loves hosting family dinners. She is also the youngest daughter of F1 Mechanical’s owner, Kris Foutch.

Liam McManus

Assistant Project Manager

Liam earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Minor in Psychology from North Carolina State University, where he developed a strong sense of discipline and community. After graduating, he gained experience in diverse roles across healthcare, real estate, and the HVAC industry. Liam’s broad professional background has made him highly adaptable and resourceful. Through these varied experiences, he has learned that organization and relationship building are essential in every field, and he looks forward to contributing these strengths to F1.

In his free time, Liam enjoys connecting with friends and family, attending car shows, and relaxing with a good movie when time permits.

Keith Wise

Purchasing Manager

As Purchasing Manager at F1 Mechanical, Keith has over 30 years of experience in the HVAC industry. His career spans both field operations and the distribution side of the business, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s technical, operational, and supply chain dynamics.

He has held senior management positions in HVAC distribution, where he led teams, streamlined procurement processes, and developed strategic vendor partnerships. His leadership style blends hands-on industry knowledge with a strong focus on operational efficiency and long-term value.

At F1 Mechanical, Keith is responsible for overseeing purchasing operations, supporting field teams, and aligning procurement strategies with project and business goals. His decades of experience and industry insight make him a trusted resource for ensuring smooth, cost-effective operations from the warehouse to the job site.

Cristhian has accumulated more than a decade of valuable experience in estimating multi-million dollar projects in the mechanical/HVAC field. His extensive expertise spans various applications, including healthcare facilities, data centers, airports, industrial plants, and commercial industries. His proficiency lies in delivering accurate estimates for projects involving the replacement and installation of various HVAC equipment such as cooling towers, chillers, boilers, and building automation systems. Additionally, he has a proven track record in overseeing complex projects, ensuring precise estimations and successful project outcomes.

Selvin Acosta

Lead Technician, HVAC

As an HVAC technician with 8 years of experience, he consistently delivers high-quality work across various projects. Now the lead technician at F1 Mechanical, he oversees projects in Charlotte and surrounding areas, showcasing leadership and technical proficiency. His dedication extends to ensuring efficient system operation and client satisfaction. Whether diagnosing complex issues or leading a team, his focus remains on providing excellence.

Even in his free time, his hands-on approach to fixing small electronics and his hobbies like mountain biking and 4-wheeling showcase his passion for problem-solving and working with mechanical systems, reflecting his commitment to staying engaged with the technical world.

Layne, with over 8 years in the HVAC industry, currently serves as the HVAC Assistant Service Director at F1 Mechanical. He excels in leading a team of technicians to ensure top-notch service and customer satisfaction.

Starting as an HVAC Service Technician, Layne advanced his skills and transitioned into management, overseeing operations and implementing best practices. Holding multiple certifications, including EPA, Trane Link, and Mitsubishi VRF Service and Install, Layne remains dedicated to staying informed about industry advancements.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, often found fishing or boating along the Ogeechee River.
